Abstract
Green chemistry, also known as sustainable chemistry, plays a pivotal role in pharmaceutical synthesis by promoting the use of environmentally friendly methods, reducing hazardous chemicals, and minimizing waste generation. The pharmaceutical industry, which traditionally relies on chemical processes that can be harmful to the environment, is increasingly adopting green chemistry principles to develop more sustainable production methods. This article explores the recent advancements in green chemistry for pharmaceutical synthesis, including the use of alternative solvents, renewable feedstocks, energy-efficient processes, and the development of cleaner catalysts. The paper also discusses the challenges faced by the pharmaceutical industry in adopting green chemistry and the future directions for achieving more sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing
