Abstract
Biochemical engineering plays a vital role in the production of bio-based chemicals, which are derived from renewable biological sources. With growing concerns about the environmental impact of petrochemical-based production processes, bio-based chemicals offer a sustainable alternative that minimizes dependence on fossil resources. This article explores the role of biochemical engineering in the production of bio-based chemicals, focusing on the use of microbial fermentation, enzyme catalysis, and metabolic engineering. Additionally, the paper highlights the challenges associated with scaling up bio-based production processes and the future directions for achieving more efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable production methods.
