Abstract
Materials used in harsh environments—such as extreme temperatures, corrosive atmospheres, and high mechanical stresses—face significant challenges in terms of performance and longevity. To enhance the durability and reliability of materials in these conditions, various strategies are employed, including material selection, surface treatments, and the development of advanced composites. This article explores the advancements in enhancing the performance of materials in harsh environments, with a focus on high-temperature alloys, corrosion-resistant coatings, and advanced composite materials. The paper discusses the mechanisms of degradation, the role of surface modifications, and the emerging technologies that contribute to material longevity in industries such as aerospace, energy, and marine. Finally, the article evaluates future research directions aimed at improving material performance in extreme conditions.
